Converting DJVU to DOC

Initially, the DJVU format was intended for storing images, as it compressed their volume without significant loss of quality. Today it is more often used to store scanned text, usually books and/or documentation. Thanks to its features, scanned images are stitched together, which allows you to more conveniently navigate through the pages. If you need to make changes to a DJVU document, you will have to convert it to text format. You will learn about the conversion process from this article.

Conversion process

Not all DJVU files can be opened in standard Word or another office editor. You may have to use some third-party software to work with the file.

Provided that your file is adapted for processing in Word, then open it using this application. To do this, right-click on the file and select from the drop-down menu "To open with". Then you need to select Word.

Method 1: DjVu Reader

DjVu Reader is a popular free program for reading and editing DJVU files. The software will not take up much space on your computer, and you don’t even need administrator rights to run it.

You can convert a document from DJVU to DOC in this way:

1. Install the program and open the desired file in it. This can be done using the combination Ctrl + A or by clicking in the top menu "File", and then choose "Open".
   
   
   
   
   
2. В "Explorer" select the desired file.
   
   
3. Select the text you will work with. If the text cannot be selected, then most likely the file is not editable, therefore, this method will be useless.
   
   
   
   
   
4. If you manage to select the text, then copy it. This can be done using the keys Ctrl + C or by right-clicking on the selected text and selecting from the menu "Copy".
   
   
5. Create or open any document in MS Word.
   
   
6. Paste the copied text into the created document. If necessary, format the text, that is, change fonts, indents, etc.
   
   
   
   
   
7. Save the document. To do this, you can use the floppy disk icon in the upper left corner.
   

Method 2: ABBYY FineReader

The program that will be discussed in this method is a tool for recognizing text in images and PDF documents. Distributed free of charge. If in the first method you were unable to edit the text, then this method will help you translate text from DJVU to DOC.

Instructions for working with DJVU files in the program:

1. First, you need to open the DJVU document. Use a combination Ctrl + A or button "Open" in the top tray of the program.
   
   
   
   
   
2. В "Explorer" select a file to open.
   
   
3. Now in the top menu click on the button "Recognize". Wait for the OCR process to complete. Progress information is located in the lower right part of the window.
   
   
   
   
   
4. Once the process is complete, you can save the document to DOC straight from the program. To do this, use the button “Save” in the top menu. When you click on the arrow, you can also select the document format in which you will save, for example, you can also save the document in PDF, EPUB, etc.
   
   
   
   
   
5. Will open "Conductor", where you need to select a folder to save the document and give it a name.
   
   
6. Once saved, you can open this file as a regular Word document. You can also make any changes there.
   

Using these simple methods and lightweight programs, you can open almost any DJVU file and convert it to an editable DOC format. The only exceptions may be some protected or “broken” files.
