Opening the WMV file
WMV is a video format developed by Microsoft. To play and edit videos with this extension, you need special players or video editors that support this format. Fortunately, such problems practically do not arise on Windows, since system players perfectly support this format.
About the opening of WMV
However, if you have any problems playing videos in standard players, then you can look at some good alternative options. When choosing a player, also pay attention to reviews about it on the Internet, its functionality and volume.
Option 1: Media Player Classic
Windows Media Player Classic was previously the default player for many older Windows operating systems. Now you can download it from the official website, it is distributed free of charge and completely translated into Russian. There is nothing superfluous in the interface, but the number of functions is not the greatest.
Instructions for opening WMV in this player look like this:
- Open the desired file. You can use keyboard shortcuts for this Ctrl + A or Ctrl + Q. In the first case, a standard opening occurs, that is, a special menu is called up, where you need to set the path to the file and select its duplication, if any. In the second case, the file is quickly opened, that is, it opens "Conductor", where you select it. Instead of keys, you can use a menu that drops down when you click on an item "File".
- Select the desired video in "Explorer", click on it and press "Open". You can also simply drag this video into the player window. Then playback will begin.
Option 2: KMPlayer
This is a free player that has codecs for most modern video formats, including WMV. It also has a simple interface, translated into Russian. However, many users are not satisfied that the player displays advertising, although it does not significantly interfere with interaction with it.
Opening a WMV file proceeds as follows:
- Use a keyboard shortcut in the player Ctrl + A, or click on "File" in the top menu and select the item there "Open file(s)". This item is first on the list.
- Will open "Conductor", where you need to select one or more videos to open. To select multiple videos, press Ctrl and click on the files you need, and then click on "Open".
A file or files can be added to the program by simply dragging them from "Conductor" into the program window.
Option 3: VLC Media Player
The VLC player has more functionality, but it is also somewhat more difficult to use. Also distributed free of charge. There are no advertisements in the player.
The process of opening a WMV file should not be difficult for you:
- Use the button "File", which is located in the top panel. There in the menu select "Open file" or "Open files...". You can also use the combination Ctrl + A.
- Will open "Conductor", where you need to select a file to open.
You can also simply transfer the desired video to the player directly from the folder.
Option 4: GOM Media Player
Another player with support for WMV codecs:
- Launch the player. To open files, use the key F2. You can also simply click on the player logo at the top left of the window.
- В "Explorer" select the video you would like to watch. If there are several of them, then when selecting, use the key Ctrl. You need to hold it down and select several files with the mouse button.
By analogy with other players, here you can also simply drag the video from the window to the central area of the program.
Option 5: Windows Media Player
This is a standard player from Microsoft, which is available by default in Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8. It can also be installed on some other operating systems, including Windows 10.
The easiest way to open the desired file is by right-clicking on it and selecting “Open with” from the drop-down menu. There, among the available options there should be just Windows Media Player. If this is not the case, then try opening the WMV file using these instructions:
- Launch the player. If it is installed on the system by default, it can be found in the menu Pusk in the standard applications section.
- Now simply drag and drop the desired video into the media player work area.
- You can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + A, and then select the desired video in "Explorer".
