It’s not for nothing that to this day, users who own more modern Windows systems are still eager to work with Movie Maker.
Movie Maker is designed for amateur film editing and creation, which is why it is so simple and straightforward to use. However, the simplicity of the program should not be considered a disadvantage; rather, it is a big plus that allows you to try yourself as a director without having any special skills. We will not deny the fact that Movie Maker is not suitable as a professional video editor, but in order to create an excellent slide show, you cannot find a better application. There are some aspects of Movie Maker in which even the most famous video editors are inferior to it. Here is a list of the main functions and capabilities of the program:

A few words about the interface of Windows Movie Maker version 2.6

Just below is a toolbar containing a number of buttons: for saving, opening, creating a project, canceling it or repeating actions, hiding or showing the taskbar, a drop-down list that allows you to select the appropriate group of elements. There are only three groups of elements: Video Transitions, Video Effects, Collections. The list of formats in which you can save your own movie is especially impressive.
A very convenient solution that greatly facilitates access to the most frequently used functions of the program, without which working with Windows Movie Maker would be completely inconvenient, is the taskbar located on the left.
Conventionally, the taskbar is divided into three main sections:
First section It's called Capture Video, which translates to Video Recording. It contains several options for selecting video, sound and pictures for the “working field” of the program;
Second section is called Edit Movie or Film Editing. There are five elements here with which you can display windows for compilations, transitions, video effects, creating titles and creating an auto movie;
Last section referred to as Finish Movie - The final stage of creating a film. This stage contains the functions that are necessary for creating and subsequently saving a movie to a computer or other external storage medium.
You can’t ignore the project window itself, located in the middle of the program. It displays video effects, compilations, and transitions. By selecting the appropriate item from the drop-down list of tools, you can switch between these groups. This area of Windows Movie Maker also displays a window for creating an auto movie and movie titles.
To view all the collections, filters, transitions and effects you have added, you should use the player built into the program. Its purpose is to display the project you created. To enlarge the images to fill the entire screen, press the corresponding button on the player, or use hotkey combination Alt + Enter.
Conveniently located at the bottom of Movie Maker is another panel that gives us a couple of options for viewing the progress of the project. One of the videos closely resembles a typical timeline. This mode is used when selecting and organizing sound, files and effects. And the second mode is a kind of storyboard, and will be convenient for users when adding various transitions and video effects. Switching between these modes can be done either by pressing a special button or through the Ctrl+T hotkey combination.
Working with the program is a pleasure. There are no difficulties at almost any stage, especially if this is not the first time you have encountered it.
We took a detailed look at the well-known video editing program Windows Movie Maker. This is just a great tool that helps you create not only an amateur video, but also a professional one. The program also has its shortcomings. These include meager capabilities for editing audio files, not very convenient display of information and minimal information about the frames being edited. However, these disadvantages are more than compensated for by a number of wonderful advantages.
And even though support for this wonderful program has long been discontinued, it will remain very popular among users for many years to come. Microsoft has tried to provide a replacement for Windows Movie Maker, which is implemented in the company's modern operating systems - Windows Movie Studio, part of a free software package called Windows Live.
