Lost performance:
Since the VirtualBox virtual machine does not work directly with the computer hardware, but through the main operating system, there are some performance losses, especially in terms of video graphics. Therefore, if you previously played a video game on low settings, be prepared that it may not start in the guest system.
Shared folders:
To make it convenient to drag and drop files and folders from the main system to the guest system and back, shared folders were invented. To create such a folder, you need to go to the guest system settings and go to the shared folders section. There, click on the add icon and specify the path to the shared folder on the main system. We set the name of the folder, so it will be called in the guest system. You can choose two options. Read-only means that you cannot delete, rename, move, etc. files or folders. Auto-connect will automatically enable the shared folder when the guest system starts.
USB media:
Do you want to work in a guest system with flash drives? Then you will have to install the guest system add-on (link below), go to the guest OS settings and enable the USB 2.0 controller. USB 3.0 standard is not yet supported. There are two options for enabling USB storage devices. You can choose only one flash drive or any one you insert into the port. Depending on this, one or all connected Flash drives will be detected.
If you want to connect everything at once, then click on the icon add empty filter or just the Ins key. If only one, then press add from device or Alt+Ins and select the one you need. Now the Flash devices you need will be automatically connected when the virtual machine starts.
Guest OS Addition:
I strongly recommend that you download the Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/virtualbox/downloads/index.html#extpack. It will come in handy when setting up a virtual machine. For example, if you have a widescreen screen, the image of the newly installed guest system will not fill the entire screen. This extension will allow you to do it all over.
Installing it is very simple. Run the downloaded extension and VirtualBox will launch with a message about installing this module.
