Analysis of basic questions about plug-ins

Разбор основных вопросов по подключаемым модулям

Plug-ins are also browser plugins that allow you to expand the capabilities of your web browser. Plugins differ from extensions in that in most cases they do not have an interface. Today we'll take a closer look at plug-ins. By default, the browser is not particularly functional, unable to display the lion's share of content. It is the plugins that give it the ability to display content posted on web resources.

For example, let’s take the world-famous Adobe Flash Player plugin. It serves to ensure that the user’s browser correctly plays Flash content posted on sites, which may include videos, music, banners, online games, etc.

How to install plugins?

As a rule, if the browser lacks a certain plugin to play any content, it automatically prompts you to install it (this does not apply to Java, Flash Player and other similar plugins).

In most cases, the user does not need to install plugins independently - the browser will do all the necessary work. But if the browser cannot automatically install the required plugin, as is the case with Flash Player, for example, the user will be prompted to go to the developer’s official website, from which they can download and then install the plugin.

How can I see installed plugins?

Web browser developers take into account the fact that plugins seriously compromise browser security, which is why, for example, in a web browser like Google Chrome, access to the plugin menu has been limited.

If you are a user of a browser based on the Chromium engine (Yandex.Browser, Amigo and others), you can go to the plugin management menu by following the following link:

browser://plugins

In the next moment, a window will appear on the screen, which will display a list of plugins installed in the browser. Through this menu you can view details of the plugin you are interested in, as well as manage its activity.

If you are a Mozilla Firefox user who runs on its own engine, going to the plugin management menu in your case is done in a slightly different way:

  1. Click on the browser menu button in the upper right corner and go to the section "Extras".

  2. On the left side of the window that opens, go to the tab "Plugins". The plugins installed in the browser will be visible on the right side of the window. If necessary, here you can configure their functioning.

How to remove plugins?

As you may have noticed, you cannot uninstall a particular module through the plugin management menu. Therefore, if, for example, it concerns a Flash Player, Java or similar plugin, its removal is done through the menu “Control Panel” – “Programs and Features”.

If the plugin was pre-installed in the browser, you cannot remove it - it is a built-in component of the web browser, and without it it will not work correctly. That's all I would like to tell you about plug-ins. If you have any questions, ask them in the comments.
