Download drivers for the HP LaserJet 1020 printer
Most users have a printer at home for printing essays, coursework, or just personal documents. Most often, this is outdated equipment, for stable operation of which you need to install the correct drivers. Where they can be found and downloaded will be discussed below. The HP LaserJet 1020 is used as an example.
Why do you need a driver?
A driver is a set of instructions that allows the operating system to control connected hardware. Timely updating will help avoid many errors in the operation of the printer. Let's talk in more detail about how to download and install the driver on the printer.
Method 1: Official website
The first most popular and reliable method is downloading from the official HP website. Please note that you cannot download a driver for Windows 10 this way! Use other available methods for this, which we will discuss later in this article.
Windows 8 and below users can do the following:
Go to the driver download page for HP https://support.hp.com/ru-ru/drivers/selfservice/hp-laserjet-1020-printer-series/439423/model/439428
- By following the link above to the official website, select the required operating system if it was not detected automatically correctly.
- Push the button "Change". Expand the tab below "Driver-Device Software Installation Kit". Then expand in the same way "Basic Drivers". The site will offer a file for download. Click on the appropriate button and wait for the download to finish.
- After downloading, run the installation file and follow the installer's prompts.
Method 2: Driver update programs
The second method is the use of specialized programs. Let's look at one of these - Snappy Driver Installer.
Go to the official website of Snappy Driver Installer https://sdi-tool.org/download/
- We go to the site and select one of the options. On our website, the SDI Lite option was used as an example. It is a driver installer that scans your workstation for uninstalled or outdated drivers. After detecting them, the application displays a list and offers to update using the Internet.
- Download the archive and open it. It contains two files for launching the software: for 32-bit and for 64-bit systems. In most cases the second file is suitable.
- A dialog box appears asking you to select the operating mode. If the user is not sure of further actions, it is recommended to select the option "Load indexes only".
- The software will scan the workstation and provide brief information about the current situation.
- Select the required line with the printer and start the installation (or update if the driver is outdated). After the process is completed, we check the printer.
Method 3: Hardware ID
This option will require the user to have knowledge of computer terms and operating skills. Each equipment in the OS has its own unique identifier - ID. Using it, you can find a driver for your equipment on specialized websites. For this:
- Right-click on Pusk and select from the menu "Device Manager". In Windows 7 and below, the same can be done by opening with the left mouse button "Start" and started typing "Device Manager" in the search bar.
- In a new window we find the option "Print Queue". For Windows versions below tenth, there will be an option "Printers". There we find the required equipment and open its properties by double-clicking the left mouse button.
- Let's go to the fold "Sweden", and, in section "Property", activate the item "Equipment ID".
- The second line is the required identifier. Copy the data by right-clicking and selecting operation "Copy".
- Go to the DevID website using this link https://devid.info/ru/search and copy the data into the search bar.
The search results will be displayed below. The user just needs to select the driver and download it, following the service prompts. After downloading the archive, you need to unpack it and run the installer. We follow his further prompts and install the driver.
This option is quite complex compared to others, so it is recommended to use it last.
Method 4: Windows Tools
Using a standard tool, the operating system independently searches for a driver in its database. Opening "Options" via alternative menu Pusk (right-click), and then select the section "Printers and scanners".
Choosing "Add printers and scanners". The system starts automatically searching for connected devices. If successful, it finds the printer and downloads the required drivers.
In Windows 7 the instructions are different:
- Open «Start» and then «Devices and Printers».
- In the window, click «Installing the Printer».
- You will be prompted to specify your printer type. Click «Add a local printer».
- In the next window just click «Next».
- The list of suggested drivers does not include the one we need. Click on «Windows Update». Scanning will begin.
- This is a lengthy process and may take about 5 minutes. At the end, the list will change significantly, in the left column find HP, in the right - LaserJet 1020. Then - «Next».
- Specify a custom printer name, click «Next» and wait for the installation to complete.
