XPS file. How to open it?
This format, little known to the average PC user, is ISO certified and published as the ECMA-388 standard. This format supports and uses vector non-sequential markup, multi-threading, multi-threaded views, working with the .NET Framework, encryption and digital certificates. In general, a very weighty kit, which is also safe, because it does not yet have script support. A little about the history of the format
An XPS file is a ZIP archive that contains the following document data: document pages of files, document fragment files, settings file documents, and similar information. To be able to view the contents of an XPS file, you should rename the ending .XPS to .ZIP, and then all that remains is to open the file with an archiver that supports working with this kind of archives (for example WinZip и WinRAR).
To create XPS files, you can safely use the standard Windows 7,8 editor - Microsoft Document Writer. It can also be downloaded for free directly from the company's website. Basically, this utility is a small printer driver that can create an .XPS document in any application that can print documents.
For ordinary viewing of files of this format, Microsoft XPS Viewer is also available in Windows. By downloading the Microsoft XPS EP package, you will be able to work with XPS files even on Windows XP.
If the .NET Framework 3.0 version is installed on your computer, then the files can be viewed directly through Microsoft Internet Explorer browser starting from version 6.
It is important to know! By default, Windows 8 uses OXPS files; although they are similar in name to XPS, they are completely different formats. Therefore, programs that open XPS may not support working with the OXPS format. Therefore, for the latter format you can use the conversion utility - Microsoft XpsConverter.

On Mac OS: Microsoft Word, NiXPS View, Nuance PDF Converter, Apple Safari with Pagemark XpsPlugin, Mozilla Firefox with the Pagemark XpsPlugin plugin.
On Linux: KDE Okular, Mozilla Firefox with Pagemark XpsPlugin, KDE Okular, Evince.
Cross-platform software: Harlequin RIP, NiXPS Edit, Pagemark XPS Viewer.
