NashTab is a tiny program developed by programmer Ronald L. Rivest back in the early 90s. Its principle is based on the fact that every file created in the operating system must have some kind of unique identifier, similar to people's fingerprints. That is, they will never happen again.
So, let's begin our acquaintance with hash. A hash is a unique identifier for any file. Everyone has it. If the file is modified, the final hash amount will change. And this will be visible using the Hashtab program. Each document must have a certain amount, and if it does not match the database, then it has been modified and may contain a virus.
Let's figure out what principle it works on. You download the program, run it, and it is automatically integrated into the Explorer system. It does not need to be opened via a shortcut or other method. Now it will accompany any file located on the computer. We find any document, for example, this one on the desktop:
Open its properties through the right-click context menu.
You see, even in the properties of an ordinary notepad there is a tab with information about the hash amount. Click it. You will see something like this:
Under the window with numbers there is a “Settings” link. If you click it, a new HashTab program window will open:
The main algorithms that perform the verification function are displayed here. Three are most often used: CRC32, MD5, SHA-1. The most advanced to date is MD5. But for a reliable result you need to use several. You can do it one at a time, but in several passes, and compare the final results. Check the box next to the appropriate names. Now - OK. We return to the previous window and are surprised at the result:
If any hacker wants to infiltrate your system computer virus, encrypted with codes in the structure of the document, then you will definitely see it, because there will be no match.
