Setting up DSL 2640U
The DSL 2640U router is designed for use both at home and in the office. The maximum data transfer speed supported by the router is 24Mbps. Its main difference is the use of DSL (telephone cable) technology for signal transmission, rather than LAN cable. Therefore, this is what significantly changes the router settings. After connecting the router to the power supply and the computer, you can begin setting it up.
Setting up the router
The first step in setting up is login to the router interface. This is standard procedure on most routers. You need in the address bar any browser enter the IP address 192.168.1.1.
By entering this, browser will open a window where you need to enter your username and password. This login and password are indicated on the bottom of the router, however, in most cases it is the same for everyone - admin.
The next step will be to enter authorization data on the Internet. This can be done by going to the "Quick Setup" section of the menu.
In this section, uncheck “DSL Auto - connect” and start the settings manually:
- VCI is prescribed 35.
- VPI - 0.
However, individual operators often have their own settings for these two items. There is also a QOS function that allows you to reserve a certain part of the channel for certain applications. After that, click “Next”.
On the next page you need to select your own connection type. Therefore, it is worth knowing about this in advance. (IN
in most cases this is PPP over Ethernet). And again “Next".
Now you need to fill in the fields:
- PPP Username - specify the user name.
- PPP Password - enter a password.
Your provider should provide you with this information.
Also, do not forget to uncheck the “PPP IP extension” menu item. After all, if you leave it enabled, then later problems will arise with enabling Firewall and NAT. And again “Next”.
Next, check the Enable NAT, Enable Firewall and Wan Service menu items. The latter makes it possible to control the router from the outside. Therefore, if you do not plan to do this, then skip this point.
You also need to come up with a name for your network; it must be entered in the “Service Name” item. And again “Next”.
Now let's start setting up the local network
After all, it is the local network that allows all computers connected by a router to not only use the Internet, but also view files located on the computers on the network.
Therefore, you need to enable the DHCP function, and to do this you need to enter:
- IP Address - 192.168.1.1
- Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
And again “Next”.
This page shows all the data we configured. Therefore, just click “Save/Reboot”.
After the reboot, go to the “Wireless” section and check the “Enable Wireless” checkbox, enter the name of the network and click “Apply”.
Click on reboot and save the changes.
Network Security
Select the encryption type WPA2-PSK, which is located in Network Authentication and enter strong password when connected to the network. Also, in the WEP Encryption item, select AES.
In order for your router to start using the data you entered, you need to go to the System item and open the “Tools” tab.
Next, click on Save / Reboot and we can start using the router. The DSL 2640U router is quite easy to configure and works stably, so there should be no problems with installation and connection.
