Error 691 when connecting to the Internet
If for any reason error 691 appears on the screen, then do not rush to call your provider or service center. It is possible that the system failed when automatically connecting to the Internet. Possible reasons for the error:
- The settings for connecting to the service provider are incorrectly configured.
- The “Secure Password” setting is not configured correctly.
- The PPP protocol server is not working.
- The login and password entered are incorrect.
If you were previously able to connect without problems, then most likely this error appeared due to a failure in the login and password. This means you need to try to manually enter this data yourself. Before that, just in case restart your computer.
Before entering, check your typing language and whether Caps Lock is enabled.
If you enter your data correctly, but there is still no Internet, then we try to go to the website of our provider. As a rule, it works over a local network, even when there is no Internet. We go into our personal account and check the funds in the account. Perhaps they either did not arrive on time or you forgot to pay for the service.
The bill has been paid, the username and password are correct, but there is no Internet. In this case, check the network settings.
Go to “Control Panel”, open “Network Connections”. Now let's check the security settings. To do this, go to the “Security” tab. We check our data with our screenshot.
Open the “Options” tab. We check the boxes correctly, as in the screenshot.
Checking the connection.
Sometimes you need to work with other settings:
- reduce connection speed;
- disable hardware flow control;
- disable error handling by the modem;
- disable data compression by the modem;
- disable software data compression;
- disable LCP extension;
- disable IP header compression. The error may also appear when installing new equipment. Since some providers register it in their networks. To solve the problem as quickly as possible, you need to go to your personal account and register the equipment.
Ultimately, if you were unable to set up the Internet yourself, you should contact your provider for help or reinstalling the operating system.
