Fixing the error in Skype “The connection could not be established”

Устраняем ошибку в Скайпе «Не удалось установить соединение»

The error “The connection could not be established” quite often becomes a cause of concern for users. Why Skype program refuses to connect to the server if everything was fine yesterday? Now we will try to find out. The lack of connection may be due to several reasons, including an outdated version of the messenger, antivirus, firewall, or protection in the router settings. Next, let's look at each one separately.

Skype update

Skype is updated quite often, but its basic functions and capabilities remain unchanged. This is precisely the reason for the presence of outdated versions of the program on user computers.
Over time, Skype for such users ceases to function correctly, because the distribution becomes obsolete and requires updating.

To resolve the error, you should completely remove Skype from your computer. To do this, you can use a special program, for example, CCleaner.

After uninstalling and restarting your computer, you should go to the official developer website http://www.skype.com/ru/download-skype/skype-for-windows/ and download the latest version of Skype.

Then we install it in the usual way and check for functionality.

Adding Skype to Firewall Exceptions

The variety of viruses forces users to install comprehensive protection against them. That is, an antivirus with a built-in firewall or a reliable firewall.

Sometimes a firewall perceives a program as a suspicious object and prevents it from accessing the network. Even the built-in firewall in Windows can do this.

To check if this is the case, try briefly disabling your antivirus or built-in firewall, and then launch Skype. If the error no longer occurs, then the problem is a fair amount of protection.

Try adding the program to the exclusion list, then restart your computer and check the result.

If the problem is in the router settings

If you use a router for your Internet connection, you should check that too.
First, go to the device settings, then check to see if any applications or programs are blocked, or if the “parental control” function is not working.

This should be clean if you haven't made any changes to the settings before.

Next, go to the “NAT” settings, open the port for Skype, save the changes and reboot the router.
After this, you should launch Skype. Go to the connection settings and enter the numeric port code for incoming connections.

Again, restart Skype and check the result. In most cases, the error “The connection could not be established” https://www.skype.com/ru/download-skype/skype-for-windows/ can be solved in the first two ways. This means that the reason for the program’s incorrect connection is a firewall or user laziness.
