Clearing space on drive C
If you don't have enough space for an HD movie, install a new video game, or your computer has become slow to respond to all your requests, then it's time to sort out your hard drive. Quite a lot of files remain here after deleted programs, games, various backups and restore points, etc. are stored here. That is why, over time, the disk begins to fill up with this garbage, and it is important for you, as users, to get rid of it periodically, because the PC cannot do this on its own . To keep your disk clean, just use the system Disk Cleanup utility. To launch it, open "Компьютер", right-click on "Local Disk (C:)"And select"<font><font>Materials</font></font>».
In the tab "General" you will immediately see a pink and blue diagram of this disk, and next to it there will be a button "Disk Cleanup" Let's press it.
The system utility will launchDisk Cleanup”, which will first estimate the amount of space that can be freed up. The larger the disk and the more full it is, the longer you will have to wait.
At the end of this analysis, you will see a window like this.
The data will, of course, vary. To find out what a particular element means, click on it with the left mouse button. Below the table, in the section "Description", you will see nothing more than a description. Only you can decide whether to keep the files or delete them. Let's say you don't need to empty the trash right now. So just uncheck this item.
After you have ticked the required items, click "OK" A dialog box will appear: Are you sure you want to permanently delete these files? We answer it “Delete files" and wait until "Disk Cleanup" will finish this job.
I would like to draw your attention to the tab “Additionally"of the same utility.
In it you can delete old restore points, leaving only the latest, most current point. To do this, select the section “Vosstanovlenie sistemy i tenevoe kopirovanie" and click on "Clear..." You will see a window like this
click "Remove».
It is worth noting that no important system files will be deleted in this way, and this procedure does not in any way affect the stability of the system (well, perhaps positively).
What else can you do?
You can clear the TEMP folder. By default, it is not touched by the system, although it is a large garbage warehouse. You CANNOT delete the folder itself! But the files stored in it are always welcome. To enter it, you must first show hidden files and folders:
Enable the display of hidden folders:
1. click "Start" and in the search window "Find programs and files"type "Parametric bag";
2. select the appropriate result;
3. in the “ tabView"go down to the very bottom and find the parameter "Hidden files and folders", where we switch to "Show hidden files and folders».
Go to the system TEMP folder:
1. Computer > Local disk (C:) > Users > select the name of your profile (account) > AppData > Local > Temp;
2. select all files (Ctrl + A) and press hotkey combination Shift + Delete (deleting files without going to the trash can, i.e. irrevocably) on the keyboard;
3. if a window appears like: “The file... is read-only. Are you sure you want to delete?", then press "Yes - for all sex", and if "Cannot delete.... Object is in use by another user or program", then we leave this file alone and delete the rest.
The second TEMP folder is already in Windows. Many users don't have a lot of junk there, but it's worth a look.
Computer > Local Disk (C:) > Windows > Temp.
We clear this entire folder in the same way as we cleared the first TEMP folder. For more detailed cleaning of your computer from garbage, you can use the program CCleaner.
