How to Convert Word to Excel
Each of us, sooner or later, has to deal with the Microsoft office suite, which includes the Word text editor, the Excel table creation tool and other equally important products. Today we will talk about ways that will allow you to convert Word to Excel.
Let's say you have lines in a Microsoft Word text document that you need to convert to Excel. This procedure can be performed using one of the methods below.
Method 1: Directly copying information from program to program
If you have Word and Excel installed on your computer, then you can complete the task with their help.
To do this, open a Microsoft Word text document, and also launch Excel and create a new table in it. We may also need the Notepad program, which is available by default on every computer running Windows.
- If it is assumed that each new line in Microsoft Word is a separate line in Excel, then the task is quite simple: copy all the information from the Word program (to select everything, click Ctrl + A, and to copy use the combination Crl+C).
- Now you will need to open the Notepad program and paste the previously copied text into it using the combination Ctrl + V. Now copy the text from Notepad (Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C).
These steps are necessary so that text copied from Word loses formatting and is correctly pasted into each individual row in Excel, since the spreadsheet editor does not understand many Word text formatting options. If you do not do this and immediately paste it directly into Excel, the text will not display correctly. - Finally, all you have to do is open Excel and select the cell that will act as the first row. Press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + V. A window will appear on the screen in which you will need to leave all parameters as default and immediately click the button "OK".
- In the next moment, the text will appear in the table exactly as we wanted.
- But if you need, for example, to transfer a table created in Microsoft Word to Excel, the task is complicated by the fact that you will have to copy each cell manually. For example, in our example, we select the contents of one cell, that is, the text “Word”, copy it with a keyboard shortcut Ctrl + C.
- After this, we open Excel, select the required cell and paste text into it using the combination Ctrl + V. This procedure must be performed for all cells.
Method 2: Convert using an online service
This method allows you to convert a Word document to Excel in cases where you do not have a spreadsheet editor installed on your computer and you cannot independently control this process.
Please note that this method often has problems translating alphabetic characters, so use it in cases where you need to transfer numeric values from one document to another.
- Follow this link https://convertio.co/ru/docx-xls/ to the page for working with the online service. If you have a DOCX file on your computer, immediately click on the button "From the computer". If you have saved a DOC file, click on "DOCX", and then go to "Document" - "DOC".
- When you press the button "From the computer", Windows Explorer will appear on the screen, in which you will need to specify the path to the file.
- Start the conversion procedure by clicking the button "Convert".
