Turn off Windows 10 screen dimming while gaming

You probably know this unpleasant feeling. You will be tempted to disable not only screen dimming, but also when loading a dark page in browser, because then it is also darkened. When running a full-screen game, the last thing we want is a blackout screen.

Before we answer this question, let's first figure out why the screen dims. Most likely it has something to do with Intel graphics. In the recent past, manufacturers have introduced a power saving option that applies even if one is using an Nvidia GPU rather than an Intel one. The integrated card is enabled at all times and has full control of the screen on laptops with Nvidia and Intel hybrid graphics.

The frame is sent to the Intel graphics when the game finishes executing the frame on the Nvidia GPU. They then display it on your screen.

Graphics Control Panel - The Place to Start

And in order to turn off the screen dimming option when playing games in Windows 10, you need to find the Intel Graphics Control Panel. You'll find it by either pressing the Windows key or opening the Windows menu in the bottom left corner. Press the Power button once it opens. After this, you need to disable the energy saving technology. Even if you turn off Windows Adaptive Brightness, the technology automatically darkens your screen.

Display refresh with speed switching should also be disabled. If this doesn't work, you may need to restart your graphics driver. To do this, press the key Windows + Ctrl + Shift+B.
I hate to tell you this, but this may not work either. If this does not happen, go to the key Windows, hold it down and press at the same time X. Click device Manager, then expand Display adapters. Right click on existing adapterThen Materials >tab Driver. If this option is present, go to the rollback driver. If this is not the case, right-click on the existing adapter and remove it. You will see a window that says something like “uninstall this device driver software.” Check this box, then exit Device Manager and restart your computer.

Updating is another option

The next thing you need to do is update. To do this you need to install available updates, you need to check for updates in the Update and Security section. This is in the section Start -> Settings... You may have to update driver display from your computer manufacturer's website. Latest drivers for Intel HD graphics cards, Nvidia and AMD ATI available on company websites.

Before you can disable screen dimming, you need to know what type of graphics you have installed. This may seem obvious, but it is not always the case. Once you figure this out (by following the steps above), look for the driver in the download section of the vendor's website. To download the driver for Intel, go here downloadcenter.intel.com/product/80939 /. Depending on the version, you can identify your products and receive software and driver updates for your Intel hardware.

For Windows 10 there are three options to choose from:

Intel® Graphics – DCH Drivers for Windows® 10
Intel® Graphics – BETA Windows® 10 DCH Drivers
Intel® Iris® Xe MAX dedicated graphics drivers
First, you'll have the Intel graphics driver for Whiskey Lake, Comet Lake, Lakefield, Gen 6 to Gen 11, Apollo Lake, Gemini Lake, and Amber Lake.

Secondly, you will receive a beta driver for them. The third option will install the Intel® Graphics Driver for Intel® Iris® Xe MAX Graphics (27.20.100.9039).

The latest drivers for Nvidia are available at www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx . Your options are beta drivers or older ones:

 • Unix Drivers

 • Additional Quadro options

 • NVIDIA PhysX system software

 • NVIDIA Driver

 • CUDA for MAC, etc.

If you are using AMD ATI, you can get support and download drivers from support.amd.com/en-us/download.

In addition, it is possible to run the driver directly on the system that needs updating. To do this, download the installer for the chipset and Radeon graphics (combined). It will install only those components that your system requires updating. You need a reliable Internet connection!

Compatibility issues

Going forward, older computers and devices will become incompatible with Windows 10 feature updates. Some users are already complaining about the lack of brightness or transparency features. This is because changes are not supported by all components that should provide this support under ideal conditions. Experts recommend updating your graphics, motherboard, BIOS, storage, or other system components. You may want to consider rolling back or blocking the update. Buy a new PC with Windows 10 if all else fails.

Windows 10 1809 is currently experiencing some issues with early adopters. While waiting for the Spring Creators Update to complete with future comprehensive updates, it may be best to downgrade to a previous version.

To do this, open Start > Settings. Then go to the section Update and safety > Recovery. It will ask you if you want to downgrade to a previous version of Windows 10. Click controller + Alt + Delete or "Post", then sign out. You will be prompted to sign in. On this screen, press the Power button while holding down the key shift on keyboard. Click the Restart button while continuing to hold down this key and wait until the “Advanced recovery options” menu appears.

Block update attempts

Windows may try to revert to Windows 10 1809. Unfortunately, Windows 10 Setup does not provide support information. Check compatibility on the hardware supplier's website. If you don't do this, you risk finding out later that you need to perform a clean install or rollback. It's quite unpleasant.

Windows Update is the most popular way to install a new feature update. The first line of defense against installation is Microsoft's “Show or Hide Updates” tool. This is a small application that allows you to hide the update. Launch it after you download it. then click Next. You need to wait for it as it identifies pending updates. To hide updates, select Feature Updates from the list. Check the box next to the update and confirm the changes. You will see either 1803 or 1709 when future versions are released.
