How to turn on Wi-Fi on a laptop
The laptop is good for transportation. With it, the user gains freedom from Internet cords. To chat with friends on social networks, read email or play an online game, you no longer have to sit at home in front of the computer. You can take it with you to a cafe, outdoors, on vacation, connect to a wireless Internet network and enjoy surfing. Just to do this, you must first turn on Wi-Fi on your laptop. Some laptop models require you to turn on Wi-Fi using a separate button, slider, or switch. The power button can be located on the sides of the laptop or on the front plane. This is often indicated by a Wi-Fi icon.
To activate a wireless network on a laptop, just move the slider or switch to the “On” position or press the corresponding button.
In models where such a button is not provided, use hotkey combinations to turn on Wi-Fi. Which one will depend on the manufacturer.
Enabling Wi-Fi using special software
To enable wireless Internet on the device, developers have come up with special programs. Through this, mechanical, touch-sensitive power buttons were eliminated, as well as goryachie key.
An example is the Easy Settings program for Samsung laptops and Intel PROSet for devices with Intel adapters.
If you can’t find a special button on your laptop, or key combinations don’t work, then look for a special program on your computer to enable a wireless network.
Activating Wi-Fi in Windows
When none of the above methods help, let's turn to the OS.
First, go to “Start”, go to “Control Panel”, select “Network and Internet”. There we look for “Network and Sharing Center”.
To quickly get to the desired location, you can use the Run utility. We call it with the key combination “Win + R”, enter “nspa.cpl” and “Enter” in the field.
After which a list will appear on the right, as shown in the screenshot.
Select “Change adapter settings”.
All active networks will appear on the screen, among which we are interested in “Wireless network connection”. If the icon is gray, the connection is inactive. To enable it, right-click on the icon and select “Enable” from the list.
If in this case the network connection does not occur, then we check the network adapters.
To do this, go to “Start”, right-click on the “My Computer” folder, select “Properties”.
In the next window, select “Device Manager”.
You can also open Device Manager via Run. Call the utility using the key combination “Win+R”, enter “devmgmt.msc” in the line and click “OK”.
We find “Network adapters” in the line-up list. Click on the plus sign and right-click on your adapter. In the list of actions, select “Engage”.
The adapter, which is responsible for Wi-Fi operation, has the words in its name: Wireless, Wi-Fi.
Sometimes for an adapter you need to download drivers from the manufacturer’s official website and install them on your computer. This should be done when the system gives an error when trying to use the adapter. You can also use DriverPack Solution program. Each laptop manufacturer strives to become the best in its business, so it makes every effort to develop and implement technological and software innovations. As a result, turning on Wi-Fi has its own characteristics, which an inexperienced user may not be aware of.
