Setting up a Rostelecom router

If your home has several electronic devices that have a built-in wi-fi module, and you are not the only one in the house who uses the Internet, then it’s time get a wi-fi router. This is the router that will help you create wireless Internet access in your home. And thanks to this, an almost unlimited number of users can access the Internet simultaneously. And by purchasing and installing a wi-fi router, you will get rid of a ton of wires that you had with wired Internet. The quality and speed of the Internet from Rostelecom is also quite good. And unlike other Internet providers, Rostelecom offers its customers a router for rent.

It is worth noting that this company offers different models of routers for rent, but most often they rent routers like Sagem FAST 2804. This router looks something like this.


You can call a company specialist and he will set up the router for you, but it is quite possible to set it up yourself. To configure a router from Rostelecom yourself, you will need to perform a number of simple steps.

To begin, as when setting up any other router, you need to go directly in our router settings. For this we go to any browser and in the address bar we write the address of the router, namely http://192.168.1.1. After this you will see a window like this.


As you can see from the screenshot, you need to enter your username and password. In most cases, you will need to enter a standard login and password, namely login - admin and password admin. If suddenly this data does not work, then look at your router. It may contain the initial login and password. Or just call your supplier and ask them for this information. After this, you will be taken to the web interface of your router.

The first step is to delete the existing PPP connection. To do this, find and go to the menu "Additional settings" and in this menu press the item "WAN service". We are looking for an item "Delete" tick it and delete the settings.

Now let's go to the menu again "Additional tinctures", then click on the item "Second level interface" and click on the item "ATM PVC Interface". Here we also check the box "Delete" and delete the current settings. With this action you have deleted the current WAN port settings.

After these steps, you will need to create a new PVC connection. To do this, in the same menu where everything was deleted, look for and press the button "Add On". In the new window we enter the following data: VPI - 0, VCI - 33, DSL Link - EoA, encapsulation mode - LLC. Having registered and marked the necessary settings, you will need to press the button "Apply/Save".

Next we find and go to the WAN service menu. And here we click on the button "Add On". In the window that opens you will need to select a physical interface "atm0/(0_0_33)" and click on the button "Further".

In the next window you will need to select a mode "PPPoE" and press the button again "Further". In the next window you will need to enter the username and password that you were given when connecting to the Internet. And in the same window you need to tick the box "retry PPP on authentication failure". After all this, press the button again "Further".

After this, a window will open called "Routing - default gateway". We don’t change anything here, but simply click the “Next” button. Next window - "DNS Settings". We don’t change anything here either, just click "Further". And now a window will open in which you will need to click on the button "Apply/Save". After completing all these steps, you will set up a router from Rostelecom. As you can see, there is nothing complicated here.
