The keyboard on the laptop does not work - what to do?
Like any other equipment, laptops can fail. So, very often the keyboard may fail. And without a keyboard it is impossible to work on a laptop. Some users, if the keyboard fails, immediately rush to take the laptop to a service center. But don’t rush, as you may be able to revive the laptop keyboard yourself. One of the reasons for the keyboard not working may be a driver failure or a system failure. In this case, you will need to update the drivers. You can also try the banal system reinstallation.
It is worth noting that on some laptops the keyboard may not work due to the fact that the battery charge is very low. In this case, you will just need to put your laptop on charge.
Another way to check its performance, and later bring it back to life, is entering BIOS. To do this, you will need to restart your laptop and press certain keys to enter the BIOS when the system boots. If you managed to enter the BIOS, then here you will need to check the functionality of the keyboard, namely, scroll through the BIOS menu using the navigation keys.
If the keys work here, then the most common thing you can do is restart the computer and again check the keyboard for functionality. There is a possibility that the keyboard will come back to life.
If the keyboard does not work in the BIOS, then the problem is most likely at the physical level. Very often, the keyboard may stop working if there are problems with its cable. The plume may oxidize over time. In this case, you will need to disassemble the laptop and check all this. It is best to disassemble the laptop according to the instructions, which you can easily find on the Internet.
After you disassemble the laptop, remove the cable and inspect it. It may be damaged or its contacts may be oxidized. If so, then fix it all and reassemble the laptop. You can remove oxidation from the contacts of the cable using a regular cotton swab with alcohol.
If everything is in order with the cable, then clean the keyboard of your laptop from dust and other foreign parts. Severely clogged keyboard may also be the reason for its inoperability.
Also, the keyboard may stop working if the microcontroller in it is burned out. In this case, there is only one way out - going to the service center.
Well, lastly, let's consider the case when you accidentally spilled some liquid on the keyboard. This option is the most deplorable, since in most cases the keyboard completely stops working. The first thing you need to do after spilling liquid on your laptop is to quickly disassemble it. And then dry it as thoroughly as possible, for example, with the same hairdryer. By the way, it is best to dry with cold air.
And in this case, in order to restore the functionality of the keyboard, you need to take it to a service center and replace it with a new one there. If, after liquid is spilled on the laptop, everything still works except the keyboard, then you can temporarily connect an external keyboard to the laptop. That is, connect a regular USB keyboard. Yes, it will be inconvenient, but for temporary use it will do. If your keyboard stops working, do not rush to change it at the service center. The problem may be minor and easy to fix yourself.
