Microsoft Word 2010 Reduced Functionality Mode
Word 10 is a powerful word processor that allows the user to fully work with texts and tables. For those who have already tried out the new product, but have not fully mastered it, a natural question will be: “How to work with files that were created in earlier versions of Word?”, because it is impossible to edit and apply new features in them due to the limited functionality of the document . When a user opens an earlier version of a file in Word 10, Reduced Functionality Mode appears at the top of the window title bar. This indicates that the program is in compatibility mode with files created by other versions of Word.
In this mode, you can continue to work in the document, but the use of advanced features for it is blocked.
Compatibility
Everyone knows that Word 97-2003 version files are saved with DOC extension, and subsequent versions - DOCX format.
For this reason, there are several compatibility modes for Word 10:
- Word 10 works in its own mode, where compatibility is of no use.
- Compatible with Word 2007 files.
- Compatible with Word 97-2003 files.
To correctly determine which compatibility mode is enabled, you must do the following:
- Click on the “File” tab, then click “Information”.
- Then we move along the path of the three “Ps” - Prepare for general access / Search for problems / Check compatibility.
- Finally, click “Select versions to display.”
After this, a check mark will appear opposite the name of the compatibility mode, which corresponds to the version of Word.
Converting a file to Word 2010 format
Now the user has a choice: continue to use the file in limited mode or convert it and enjoy all the existing features of Word 10.
Now let's list what a user can do with a document from an old version of Word:
- Nothing, thus maintaining the limited functionality mode.
- Convert to a Word 2010 document without saving a copy of the source.
- Convert to Word 2010 document and also save the original.
To convert a document, open the “File” tab. Go to the “Details” item and click the “Convert” button.
If you need the document to be saved in its original form, we do it differently: go to the “File” tab and click the “Save As” button. Next, we give the file a new name, and specify its type as “Word Document.” The latest version of the editor already exists - Word 13. Updates, as we see, are happening quite rapidly. But the principle of operation, the basic techniques remain unchanged.
