Setting up WiFi on the D-Link DIR-615 router
So, the router was purchased. Now unpack the box with it. First, we need a patch cord, that is, a cable with which we connect the computer to the router. Typically, each router comes with a cable 50-100 centimeters long. We connect the router and the computer with a cable, and then plug the power cord into the outlet. It is worth noting that you need to connect the cable to the router into one of four connectors. They are highlighted in blue in the photo. In our case, we selected the first port:
As a result, the network card of your computer is connected by a cable to the router. After this, all that remains is to correctly configure the Internet connection, as well as set a password for the Wi-Fi access point.
Now the actual configuration of the router begins. To do this you should open any browser and enter the IP address of the router in the address bar. For this model it is 192.168.0.1. After entering the address, the transition will be completed to the router settings page. But first you need to go through authorization. However, after turning on for the first time, you do not need to enter anything; just click the Login button.
After clicking the Login button, the router configuration interface appears. At the bottom there is a Manual Internet Connection Setup button. This is what we will need at this stage of setup.
In the next picture we only need to adjust four points. Don't forget to use the documents provided by the provider.
• My Internet Connection is item - here you need to select the type of your connection. It is indicated in the documentation from the provider.
• login and password should also be found in the documentation. By the way, some types of connection do not require entering a login and password.
• after entering all the settings, click the “Save settings” button. As a result, the settings will be saved.
Application of the settings ends with the router rebooting. Everything will take no more than one or two minutes.
After the reboot you will have to log in again. Click on the Login button again. Actually, the Internet setup is already completed. All we have to do is protect the access point so that strangers cannot use the Internet. Go to the Wireless settings section. After going there, click on the Manual Wireless Network Setup button.
Now we begin to configure all the parameters in order.
1. Wireless Network Name—name of the wireless network. You can specify anything you want here, this is not the most important parameter.
2. 802.11 Mode - here you should select the following option: Mixed 802.11n, 802.11g, 802.11b.
In the Channel Width item, select the channel number. It would be preferable to set Auto 20/40 MHz.
Next, we set up the most important point - security. Go to the Security Mode section. Select WPA-Personal.
After this, several more parameters will appear below.
• WPA Mode—specify the Auto option;
• Cipher Type - the best option would be TKIP and AES;
• Pre-Shared Key - this setting is responsible for password for your wireless network. Its length should not be less than 8 characters. It is best to write down the key and keep it in a safe place.
After entering the settings, do not forget to save them. The router will reboot again, but this time it will only take 15-20 seconds. Now your router is finally ready for use. You can safely connect to it the cable that the provider brought into your apartment into the connector.
